Sami Khedira w meczu ¼ finału Euro 2016 z Włochami doznał kontuzji mięśnia uda i opuścił plac gry już po kwadransie od jego rozpoczęcia. Szczegółowe badania wykazały, że pomocnik nie zdąży się wyleczyć na półfinałowy mecz, który zostanie rozegrany 7 lipca (z Francją lub Islandią), ani nawet na finał 10 lipca, jeśli Niemcy do niego awansują.

Joachim Loew przed czwartkowym meczem ma powody do niepokoju. Z powodu urazu pod wielkim znakiem zapytania stoi występ Mario Gomeza, a za kartki będzie musiał pauzować Mats Hummels.
